Before unpacking the measuring instrument, place the instrument case flat on the ground. Never carry or cradle the instrument while unpacking to prevent it from falling and breaking during the process. After unpacking, carefully observe how the instrument is positioned inside the case to ensure it is repacked in the same manner after use. Before removing the instrument from the case, loosen all locking screws. When extracting the instrument, support its base with one hand while gripping the support arm with the other, lifting it gently. Never lift the telescope or cross-staff by hand. After removing the instrument and accessories from the case, promptly close the lid to prevent dust ingress. Place the instrument case near the survey station; sitting on the case is prohibited. Select a station location where the tripod can be securely set up with minimal pedestrian and vehicle traffic to ensure instrument safety. Position the tripod for optimal observation: orient the three legs appropriately and adjust the tripod height to match the observer's stature. The tripod head should be roughly level. Place the measuring instrument on the tripod head, grasping the instrument's bracket and base firmly with one hand while immediately tightening the connecting screw with the other. Only after confirming the secure connection should the hand holding the instrument be released. Note that the connecting screw should be tightened appropriately—neither too loose nor too tight. After completing observations, return the leg screws, brake screws, and micrometer screws to their normal positions. Use lens paper or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from the instrument's surface. Then, remove the measuring instrument and cradle it with both hands. Place it back into the case in the same orientation as when it was removed. Before closing the case lid, gently tighten all brake screws and verify that all instrument components are properly seated. Never force the lid shut, as this may damage the instrument.
